Songkhla Province Celebrates the Official Launch of its Creative City of Gastronomy Initiative, Presenting Local Culinary Identity to National Business Leaders
On November 21, 2025, at Central Hatyai, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province held the Official Launch Ceremony of its Creative City of Gastronomy Initiative. This landmark event, part of the “City and Community Potential Development Project to Support the UNESCO Creative Cities Network,” took place during the 43rd Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) Annual Conference. The ceremony served to demonstrate Songkhla’s readiness and formalize its commitment to becoming a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).
The event featured a comprehensive exhibition titled “Songkhla: Creative City of Gastronomy,” which disseminated historical data and the cultural roots of local cuisine inextricably linked to the Songkhla way of life. Complementing the exhibition were 16 specialized booths representing the 16 districts of Songkhla. These booths showcased culinary demonstrations and offered local delicacies and food innovations, presenting premium ingredients and creative menus to the Board of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the general public.
In honor of its reputation as a city of art and culture, the opening ceremony featured a special cultural performance reflecting the unique identity of the “City of Two Seas, Three Waters.” This was held in conjunction with the formal city-opening proceedings. Furthermore, the event introduced innovative food products that harmonize local wisdom with modern concepts, aiming to create new business opportunities and stimulate awareness within the creative economy sector.
The successful organization of this official launch and city-opening event marks a significant milestone in building confidence and garnering support from the business sector and national agencies. Together, these stakeholders aim to elevate Songkhla’s cultural culinary assets into a primary driver for sustainable provincial development.
