Songkhla Bao Mango: Thailand’s 190th GI Product from Sathing Phra Peninsula

Songkhla Bao Mango is one of the local ingredients that reflects the identity of Songkhla City of Gastronomy. Known for its tangy flavor, crisp texture, and distinctive aroma, this small mango is closely connected to the Sathing Phra Peninsula.

Songkhla Bao Mango has been registered as Thailand’s 190th Geographical Indication product. The registration covers three product types: fresh Bao Mango, preserved Bao Mango in syrup, and salted pickled Bao Mango, all prepared from fresh Bao Mango fruits.

The growing area is located on the Sathing Phra Peninsula, covering four districts: Singhanakhon, Sathing Phra, Krasae Sin, and Ranot. The processing area covers all districts of Songkhla Province.

Its key characteristics include small fruit size, oval-round shape, short stalk, large fruit clusters, thin light-green skin, strong aroma, clear sap, tangy flavor, and firm white crisp flesh.

Beyond being eaten fresh, Songkhla Bao Mango can be processed into many products, such as preserved mango, salted pickled mango, beverages, ice cream, and chili paste. This makes it a versatile local ingredient for households, restaurants, and creative food businesses.

Songkhla Bao Mango is therefore more than a familiar sour fruit. It represents local geography, food wisdom, and the culinary potential of Songkhla Province.
